Phil Smyth


As the National Basketball League's longest serving participant, Phil Smyth has done it all.

As a Player, Phil was a 4 time Olympian and 5 time World Championship Player and a member of 3 NBL Championship teams with the Canberra Cannons (1983, 84, 88). In total, he played 356 games with stints in St Kilda, Canberra, Adelaide and Sydney. He was inducted into the NBL Hall of Fame as a player in 2000, won the NBL Grand final MVP in 1988, won the NBL Defensive Player of the Year on 4 occasions and was selected in the All NBL First Team on 6 occasions.

Phil then commenced his coaching career with the Adelaide 36ers in 1998 where he had immediate success by winning the NBL Championship before repeating this feat the next year in 1999 and again in 2001/02.

Brett Maher


As captain of the Adelaide 36ers and having played there since 1992, Brett Maher has won 3 NBL Championships (1997, 1998, 2002) and won the Larry Sengstock Award for Finals MVP on 2 occasions, in 1998 and 2002.

Brett has represented Australia at the Olympic Games in 1996 (Atlanta), 2000 (Sydney) and 2004 (Greece) and the World Championships in 1998.

He has had another stellar season in 2005/06, winning his fifth Team MVP Award and leading the 36ers to another Top 4 finish.
With a reputation as "Mr Clutch" in the NBL, Brett is a proven winner and will go down as one of the great players in NBL history.
